AML check on Firo
Firo (FIRO) is a privacy coin: its Spark addresses hide sender, receiver and amount, while transparent and EX addresses stay publicly visible.
AML checkers can only analyse Firo's transparent side (transparent and EX addresses). Funds that moved through Spark have no visible sender, receiver or amount, so a clean or empty result does not mean the same as it would on Bitcoin.

How to check a Firo address
- Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
- Pick a service that covers FiroChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. If an exchange gives you a FIRO deposit address starting with 'EXX', send from a transparent address: EX-addresses reject funds sent straight from Spark.
- Run the check and read itCheck that your exchange still lists FIRO before sending: Binance delisted it on 16 April 2025 and stopped supporting withdrawals on 16 June 2025.
Firo specifics
- Firo's Spark protocol hides the sender, the receiver and the amount of a transaction, while anyone can still verify the blockchain's overall state.[1]
- Firo announced Spark as live on mainnet on 18 January 2024; its roadmap placed the launch of Exchange (EX) addresses alongside Spark in January 2024.[2]
- Spark supports incoming and full view keys, so a wallet owner can choose to let a third party, such as an accountant or auditor, see incoming and/or outgoing transactions.[3]
- Firo says it created Exchange (EX) addresses so exchanges can meet regulatory requirements such as the EU's MiCA without asking for full view keys, which would expose a user's entire transaction history; EX-addresses only accept funds coming from transparent addresses.[4]
- After the January 2021 51% attack, Firo's team scheduled the activation of ChainLocks, a protection against this kind of attack, at block 341,100 (about 28 January 2021).[5]
- According to Firo, Binance confirmed on 20 June 2024 that EX-addresses were live on its exchange, and Firo trading reopened in Poland, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium and Sweden, where it had been restricted since May 2023.[6]
- Binance announced on 8 April 2025 that it would delist FIRO, along with 13 other tokens, on 16 April 2025 at 03:00 UTC after its first 'Vote to Delist' round; withdrawals were supported until 16 June 2025. Binance cited criteria including vote results, team commitment, development activity, trading volume and liquidity, and network stability.[7]
- On 18 January 2021 Firo suffered a 51% attack aimed at defrauding exchanges; according to Firo's post-mortem, Binance reported losses of 906,771.4373 FIRO and Indodax 82,741.37718628 FIRO, and an emergency update locked the attacker's proceeds and limited chain reorganisations to 5 blocks.[8]

FAQ
Can an AML checker trace Firo?
Only partly. Transparent and EX addresses are public, like Bitcoin. Spark transactions hide the sender, receiver and amount, so a checker cannot see what happened inside Spark.
What is an EX address?
An Exchange address (starting 'EXX', 36 characters) works like a transparent address but only accepts FIRO sent from transparent addresses. Firo created it so exchanges can meet rules such as the EU's MiCA without asking users for full view keys.
Can I show where my Firo came from?
Spark has incoming and full view keys, which let you give a third party visibility of your incoming and/or outgoing transactions. Whether a given exchange accepts this is up to that exchange.
How do I check a Firo address for AML risk?
Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Firo, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.
What does “Not verified” mean?
The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
