AML check on Neo
Neo has two live address styles: N... on the Neo N3 main chain and 0x... on Neo X, its Ethereum-compatible sidechain. Fees on both are paid in GAS.
Before you screen a Neo address, check which chain it is on: N... is Neo N3, 0x... is Neo X, and A... is the old Neo Legacy chain. Make sure the AML checker lists the exact network (Neo N3 or Neo X), not just 'Neo'.
Services that check Neo
How to check a Neo address
- Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
- Pick a service that covers NeoChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. Be wary of any site offering to 'migrate' old Neo Legacy (A...) tokens. Neo warned that third-party migration portals can lead to losses, and it scheduled Legacy to shut down on 31 October 2025.
- Run the check and read itGAS can move between Neo N3 and Neo X over a bridge, so the same funds may show up under an N... address and a 0x... address. Screen the address on the chain you are actually using.
Neo specifics
- Neo uses two tokens: NEO represents the right to manage the blockchain (governance), while GAS represents the right to use it and pays transaction fees; GAS spent on system fees is burned.[1]
- Neo confirms blocks using delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance (dBFT): a selected validator proposes a block, and it is committed once more than two-thirds of the consensus nodes agree.[2]
- Neo N3, the current version of the Neo blockchain, went live on 2 August 2021, and NEO and GAS holders were asked to migrate their tokens over from the older Neo Legacy chain.[3]
- Neo X, an Ethereum-compatible (EVM) sidechain of Neo, launched its MainNet on 25 July 2024; it is linked to Neo N3 by a native bridge, and GAS, which is created only on Neo N3, is used on Neo X too.[4]
- Neo X added protection against MEV (validators reordering transactions for profit) in its MainNet v0.4.2 upgrade: users can send encrypted 'envelope' transactions that stay hidden until their order is fixed.[5]
- Neo Global Development (NGD) reported that in early 2023 Neo 'experienced and addressed a security breach that affected the N3 migration service'.[6]
- Neo scheduled the Neo Legacy MainNet shutdown for 31 October 2025, said assets not moved to Neo N3 by then would be permanently lost, and warned that trusting third-party migration portals may result in asset loss.[7]
Common risks on Neo
FAQ
What is the difference between NEO and GAS?
NEO represents the right to manage the Neo blockchain (governance). GAS represents the right to use it: fees on Neo N3 are paid in GAS, and GAS spent on system fees is burned. GAS is also the native fee currency on Neo X.
Why do some Neo addresses start with N, A or 0x?
N... addresses are on Neo N3, the current main chain, which launched in August 2021. A... addresses are on the older Neo Legacy chain, which Neo scheduled to shut down on 31 October 2025. 0x... addresses are on Neo X, an Ethereum-compatible sidechain launched in July 2024 (chain ID 47763).
Are USDT or USDC issued natively on Neo?
No. As of October 2026, neither Tether's list of supported blockchains nor Circle's list of native USDC chains includes Neo N3 or Neo X, so any dollar token you see on Neo is not issued natively by Tether or Circle.
How do I check a Neo address for AML risk?
Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Neo, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.
What does “Not verified” mean?
The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
