AML check on Celestia
Celestia is a Cosmos-based network where rollups publish their data. Its TIA token uses celestia1... addresses and can move to other chains over IBC.
Celestia wallet addresses start with celestia1. Validator addresses (celestiavaloper1...) identify validators for staking, so don't paste one as a deposit address. If your exchange shows a memo or tag for TIA deposits, copy it exactly.

How to check a Celestia address
- Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
- Pick a service that covers CelestiaChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. Be wary of 'TIA airdrop' links: the official Genesis Drop claim window closed in October 2023, and Celestia says its team will never ask for your seed phrase or private key.
- Run the check and read itCheck the prefix before screening or sending: celestia1... is a Celestia account; a similar-looking address with a different prefix is a different kind of address or belongs to another network.
Celestia specifics
- Data availability answers one simple question: has a block's data been published so anyone can download it? Celestia stores data for many apps such as rollups, each in its own 'namespace', so each app only downloads its own data.[1]
- The 'Matcha' network upgrade (CIP-42) bundles several changes, including lowering the unbonding period to about 14 days (CIP-37) and removing the token filter for Hyperlane and IBC (CIP-39).[2]
- Celestia's v6 upgrade (CIP-42, 'Matcha') activated on mainnet on 24 November 2025 at block 8,662,012.[3]
- Unstaking (unbonding) TIA takes 14 days and 1 hour (337 hours), down from the previous 21 days.[4]
- TIA holders can delegate (stake) their tokens to a validator to earn a share of its staking rewards, and any TIA holder (not just stakers) can propose and vote on governance proposals.[5]
- Celestia supports IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication), a protocol that passes messages between blockchains, so assets can be bridged between Celestia and other chains.[6]
- In its Genesis Drop (airdrop) announcement, the Celestia Foundation said genesis.celestia.org was the only URL for checking and claiming eligibility, that no one from Celestia Labs or the Celestia Foundation will ever ask for your seed phrase or private key, and that TIA will never be distributed via surprise giveaways on Twitter.[7]
- The Genesis Drop offered 60 million TIA (6% of total supply) to 7,579 developers and 576,653 onchain addresses, and the official claim window closed on 17 October 2023 at 12:00 UTC.[8]
Common risks on Celestia
FAQ
How long does it take to unstake TIA?
Since the Matcha upgrade went live on mainnet on 24 November 2025, the unbonding period is 14 days and 1 hour. Before that it was 21 days.
Is USDT or USDC issued natively on Celestia?
No. Celestia isn't on Tether's list of supported USDT chains or Circle's list of native USDC chains. Since Matcha removed the IBC/Hyperlane token filter, other chains' assets can be bridged in, but any such USDC or USDT would be a bridged version, not one issued directly on Celestia.
Will Celestia ever message me about a token giveaway?
Celestia's official Genesis Drop post said no one from Celestia Labs or the Celestia Foundation will ever ask for your seed phrase or private key, and that TIA will never be distributed through surprise giveaways on Twitter.
How do I check a Celestia address for AML risk?
Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Celestia, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.
What does “Not verified” mean?
The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
