AML check on Cardano

Cardano (ADA) addresses start with addr1, and one wallet usually uses many of them, so an AML check on a single address may show only part of a wallet's activity.

Address formatStarts with addr1 (Shelley) · Bech32; stake addresses start with stake1addr1qvrf7w8ag7gpl867k75v62njs69amsyyy0935t22xwqnjsn6qpnw6mwv25ll9nudr43a4q0u7z5w2ds0mgdex499dlkmd5whw9Example for illustration, not a real address.
Note

A Cardano wallet usually spreads funds across many addr1 addresses that share one stake key, so a clean result for one address does not cover the whole wallet. If your checker or explorer accepts stake1 addresses, checking the stake address as well can help you find related addresses.

How to check a Cardano address

  1. Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
  2. Pick a service that covers CardanoChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. Paste the full address and check that it starts with addr1 (or stake1 for a stake address). Legacy Byron addresses starting with Ae2 or DdzFF use an older format, so confirm your checker supports them.
  3. Run the check and read itBe suspicious of any address from a livestream or social post that promises to double ADA you send. The official Cardano site lists this 'ada giveaway' as a common scam, so check the address before you send anything.
A real AML check needs only a public address. Never share a seed phrase or private key.

Cardano specifics

  • A Cardano wallet normally creates many receive addresses and change addresses that all share one staking key, so one person can show up under many different addr1 addresses.[1]
  • Payment addresses that share the same delegation (stake) credential are publicly linked, because the same stake key hash appears in each of them.[2]
  • Tokens other than ADA are tracked by the Cardano ledger itself, with no smart contract needed for a basic transfer, and one transaction output can carry ADA plus many tokens at once.[3]
  • Every output that holds tokens must also carry a minimum amount of ADA, so token transfers on Cardano always move some ADA as well.[4]
  • The official Cardano website lists the 'ada giveaway' (send ADA and get double back) as a common scam, along with phishing for recovery phrases, fake investment projects, fake tech support and rug pulls.[5]

FAQ

What does a Cardano address look like?

Modern mainnet payment addresses start with addr1. A standard base address is 103 characters long, and a stake (reward) address starts with stake1. Older Byron-era addresses use a different format (Base58), for example addresses starting with Ae2 or DdzFF.

Can one Cardano wallet have more than one address?

Yes. Under the CIP-1852 wallet standard, one account generates many receive and change addresses that share one staking key. Because that stake part is shared, those addresses are publicly linked on-chain.

Is USDT or USDC issued natively on Cardano?

Not according to the issuers' own lists as checked in October 2026. Cardano does not appear on Tether's supported-protocols page or on Circle's list of native USDC networks. Because users can create their own tokens on Cardano, a token that uses one of those names is not proof that Tether or Circle issued it.

How do I check a Cardano address for AML risk?

Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Cardano, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.

What does “Not verified” mean?

The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
