AML check on Dogecoin

Dogecoin (DOGE) is an open-source, proof-of-work cryptocurrency adapted from Bitcoin Core; standard addresses start with D, script addresses with A or 9.

Address formatStarts with D (standard) or A / 9 (script) · Base58CheckDNjXGGrHjqstSWs31yAxbAvyKNnUg2UWADExample for illustration, not a real address.
Note

A Dogecoin mainnet address starts with D, A or 9. Because leftover coins usually go back to the sender as ‘change’, one transaction can show several output addresses, and not all of them belong to the recipient.

How to check a Dogecoin address

  1. Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
  2. Pick a service that covers DogecoinChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. Before you paste the address, make sure the checker lists Dogecoin as a supported network and that DOGE is selected, not Bitcoin or Litecoin.
  3. Run the check and read itScams are the most common illicit use of DOGE found by researchers, so treat any 'send DOGE, get double back' giveaway as a red flag, even if the address gets a low risk score.
A real AML check needs only a public address. Never share a seed phrase or private key.

Dogecoin specifics

  • Dogecoin uses a UTXO model: each payment spends earlier 'unspent transaction outputs' in full, and leftover funds usually return to the sender as a separate 'change' output in the same transaction.[1]
  • Dogecoin Core, the main node software, is open-source under the MIT license, is adapted from Bitcoin Core, and uses Scrypt proof of work.[2]
  • A new Dogecoin block is produced about every minute, and the miner who produces it receives 10,000 newly minted DOGE as a block reward.[3]
  • Tether's list of blockchains where USDT is issued does not include Dogecoin.[4]
  • Circle's list of networks with native USDC (38 networks as of June 2026) does not include Dogecoin.[5]
  • TRM Labs found that fake Elon Musk 'giveaway' scams around his Saturday Night Live appearance in May 2021, which promised to send back double the DOGE sent, collected at least 9.8 million DOGE, worth about $5 million at the time.[6]
  • Elliptic found that thefts, scams and Ponzi schemes are by far the most notable crime type affecting DOGE, identifying over 50 such schemes that obtained hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Dogecoin.[7]
  • Elliptic reports that in July 2021 Israel's National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing ordered the seizure of 84 crypto addresses linked to Hamas or terror activity, including Dogecoin addresses that had received a total of $40,235.[8]

FAQ

What does a valid Dogecoin address look like?

Standard mainnet addresses start with D, and script addresses start with A or 9, according to the Dogecoin Core source code. Testnet addresses start with n.

Can I hold USDT or USDC on the Dogecoin blockchain?

Not natively. Dogecoin is not on Tether's list of blockchains where USDT is issued, and it is not among the 38 networks where Circle issues native USDC.

What are the main illicit uses of DOGE?

Elliptic found that thefts, scams and Ponzi schemes are by far the most notable crime type involving DOGE, and that several darknet markets, including drug markets, accept it. TRM Labs tracked fake Elon Musk giveaway scams in May 2021 that collected at least 9.8 million DOGE (about $5 million at the time).

How do I check a Dogecoin address for AML risk?

Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Dogecoin, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.

What does “Not verified” mean?

The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
