AML check on Cronos

Cronos has two chains that both use CRO: Cronos EVM with 0x addresses and Cronos POS Chain with cro1 addresses. Check which one an address belongs to before you send or screen it.

Address formatCronos EVM: 0x + 40 hex characters · Cronos POS Chain: cro1… (Bech32)0x6df7f39c466fe3a19c2b44ba11784c3692984319Example for illustration, not a real address.
Note

Crypto.com lists CRO on three networks: Cronos (0x…), Cronos POS Chain (cro…) and Ethereum ERC20 (0x…), so a 0x address alone does not tell you the chain. Make sure your AML checker supports the exact network, not just "CRO".

How to check a Cronos address

  1. Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
  2. Pick a service that covers CronosChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. Sending to an exchange's Cronos POS (cro…) deposit address? Crypto.com says a memo is required when depositing or withdrawing to other exchanges, so include it.
  3. Run the check and read itTo move CRO between Cronos POS Chain and Cronos EVM, use the official Cronos Bridge; Cronos's docs advise sending a small test amount first.
A real AML check needs only a public address. Never share a seed phrase or private key.

Cronos specifics

  • Cronos runs two separate chains, Cronos EVM (Ethereum-compatible, built on the Cosmos SDK) and Cronos POS Chain (a Cosmos chain for payments and NFTs), and both are powered by the same CRO token, which pays transaction fees.[1]
  • Cronos EVM mainnet uses chain ID 25 and CRO as its native token; the official block explorer is explorer.cronos.com.[2]
  • Cronos POS Chain mainnet account addresses use the Bech32 format with the prefix 'cro' (testnet addresses use 'tcro'), so a cro1… address is a Cronos POS Chain address.[3]
  • CRO moves between Cronos POS Chain and Cronos EVM through the official Cronos Bridge (IBC), which supports MetaMask, Keplr and the Crypto.com Onchain wallet; the docs warn that misuse can cause incorrect transfers or loss of assets and advise sending a small amount first.[4]
  • Cronos's documentation states that Cronos zkEVM is being sunset and tells users to bridge their assets out before it is decommissioned.[5]
  • TRM Labs reported that on 30 August 2026 an attacker pumped the price of TONIC, the thinly traded governance token of the Cronos lending protocol Tectonic, about 100x in roughly 20 minutes and borrowed against it, for a reported loss of about USD 75 million; about USD 6 million reached Ethereum through a USDC bridge before Cronos halted block production and validators rolled the chain back.[6]
  • In the same report, TRM Labs said it had recorded 32 price-manipulation exploits in 2026 so far (across all chains), more than in any previous year.[7]

FAQ

Is a cro1 address the same as a 0x address on Cronos?

No. Addresses starting with cro… belong to Cronos POS Chain, while 0x… addresses are used on Cronos EVM (and also on Ethereum). They are separate chains; CRO moves between Cronos POS Chain and Cronos EVM through the official Cronos Bridge.

Is there native USDT or USDC on Cronos?

Circle lists Cronos among the chains with native USDC. Tether's official list of supported chains does not include Cronos.

Why was the Cronos chain rolled back in 2026?

According to TRM Labs, after an attacker exploited the Tectonic lending protocol on 30 August 2026, Cronos halted block production and validators rolled the chain back to a state before the attack. That reversed most of the stolen funds still on Cronos, but part had already been bridged to Ethereum.

How do I check a Cronos address for AML risk?

Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Cronos, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.

What does “Not verified” mean?

The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
