AML check on Polkadot
Polkadot addresses start with 1. Since November 2025, DOT balances live on Polkadot Asset Hub, where Tether issues USDT; Circle also lists native USDC on Polkadot.
The same key shows a different address on Kusama and other Polkadot-based chains, so screen the exact address for the network you are using. On Asset Hub, an account that falls below 0.01 DOT is deleted along with any leftover funds.

How to check a Polkadot address
- Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
- Pick a service that covers PolkadotChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. Check the address in its Polkadot form (starting with 1) and confirm the checker lists Polkadot support; the same key looks different on Kusama (capital letter) or in generic format (starting with 5).
- Run the check and read itFor stablecoins, check the asset ID: Tether lists USDT as asset 1984 on Polkadot Asset Hub and Circle lists USDC as 1337. A token using the same name with a different ID is not the one the issuers list.
Polkadot specifics
- If an account falls below the existential deposit (the minimum balance), it is 'reaped': it is wiped from the chain's state along with any funds left in it.[2]
- On 4 November 2025 Polkadot moved account balances, staking and governance from the Relay Chain to Asset Hub; addresses stayed the same and users did not need to do anything.[3]
- With that migration, the existential deposit dropped from 1 DOT to 0.01 DOT.[4]
- Asset Hub is a 'system parachain' (a chain connected to and governed by the Polkadot Relay Chain) built for creating and managing tokens, and a token's issuer can appoint a 'freezer' that can freeze the token on specific addresses.[5]
- Tokens move between Polkadot chains using XCM (Cross-Consensus Messaging, Polkadot's built-in way for chains to send each other messages), and Asset Hub keeps track of how much of each token has gone to each parachain.[6]

FAQ
What does a Polkadot address look like?
It is a long string in SS58 format that always starts with the number 1. The same account shows a different-looking address on Kusama (starting with a capital letter) or in the generic Substrate format (starting with 5), but the underlying key is the same.
Why are my DOT now on Asset Hub?
On 4 November 2025 Polkadot moved account balances, staking and governance from the Relay Chain to Asset Hub. Your address did not change and you did not need to do anything.
What happens if my balance drops below the minimum?
Polkadot has a minimum balance called the existential deposit, which is now 0.01 DOT. If an account falls below it, the account is removed from the chain along with any funds left in it.
How do I check a Polkadot address for AML risk?
Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Polkadot, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.
What does “Not verified” mean?
The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
