AML check on Base
How to recognise a Base address, how withdrawals from Base to Ethereum work, and what to keep in mind when running an AML check on funds held on Base.
A Base address looks the same as an Ethereum address (0x followed by 40 hexadecimal characters), so confirm which network the funds are actually on and use a checker that lists Base as its own network.
Services that check Base
For companies: screening tools that list Base
Enterprise KYT and wallet-screening platforms for exchanges, payment firms and other businesses. Prices are on request and they are not part of our score. “Screening” means the provider’s own page lists Base for screening or monitoring; “Not verified” means it is listed only for investigations or without detail. How to check a Base address
- Get the public addressAsk your counterparty for the address they will send from — or copy it from the incoming transaction.
- Pick a service that covers BaseChoose one marked “Supported” in the list above. Check that your AML checker supports Base as its own network; a result for the Ethereum network describes Ethereum activity and may not show what the same-looking address did on Base.
- Run the check and read itIf funds came from Ethereum or another chain, check the source address on that chain too: official withdrawals from Base to Ethereum take 5 days (or 1 day on the fast path), but Base notes that third-party bridges can pay out sooner using their own liquidity.
Base specifics
- Base describes itself as built by Coinbase.[2]
- Withdrawing from Base to Ethereum through the official bridge takes three steps (start on Base, prove on Ethereum, finalize on Ethereum), and the last step can only happen after a waiting window of 5 days, or 1 day when both a TEE proof and a ZK proof back the same proposal.[3]
- Only withdrawals to Ethereum have to wait; ordinary transactions inside Base, such as swaps or sends, do not.[4]
- Older guides often say 7 days, but Base's upgrade documentation says the single-proof withdrawal window was reduced from 7 days to 5 days, and the 1-day dual-proof fast path stays the same.[5]
Common risks on Base
FAQ
Is a Base address the same format as an Ethereum address?
Yes. Base uses the Ethereum address format: 0x followed by 40 hexadecimal characters, 42 characters in total, and the mixed-case checksum from ERC-55 can be used to catch typos. Because the formats are identical, the address alone does not tell you whether funds are on Base or Ethereum.
How long does a withdrawal from Base to Ethereum take?
Through the official bridge, a withdrawal is started on Base, proved on Ethereum and finalized on Ethereum after a waiting window. Base's documentation gives that window as 5 days for a single-proof dispute game, or 1 day when both a TEE proof and a ZK proof back the same proposal. Older guides that say 7 days are out of date: Base's upgrade documentation says the single-proof window was cut from 7 to 5 days. Transfers and swaps inside Base do not have this wait.
Are USDT and USDC native on Base?
USDC: yes, Circle lists Base among the networks where it issues USDC natively. USDT: Base does not appear on Tether's own list of supported networks, so a USDT-labelled token on Base is not one that Tether lists as issued natively there.
How do I check a Base address for AML risk?
Copy the public address, open one of the services listed above that supports Base, and run the check. You never need a seed phrase or private key.
What does “Not verified” mean?
The service claims support somewhere — in marketing copy or a third-party page — but its own docs, pricing or FAQ do not list the network. Treat it as unknown.
